The Holiday season has rushed up on my this year. It seemed like yesterday I was hanging out at the river with my river group of dogs with no worries about cold weather.

My new addition , Sway or Swayze is now four months old. He has all his vaccines and we are starting on our socialization skills. He is smart as a whip and loves to learn. We "play" not train. ;) He already knows potty on command, sit , down , come, good leash behavior and semi-stay. Not bad for not working that hard with him.

I do have a few cold weather suggestions for everyone..

B.A.L.T.O's Cold Weather Tips

PLEASE make sure they have a good solid shelter that is up off the ground if they are outside. Make sure you have dry bedding like straw or blankets and change them if they get damp. This will provide your pet a place to keep warm and out of the elements while you are gone. I personally like straw because it lets the dog burrow into it but be careful to test this out before using it because some dogs can be allergic.

Make sure to provide clean, fresh UNFROZEN water for your pets. Heated water bowls are worth the extra expense if you live in an area were the water freezes at night.

If you use salt or chemicals make sure it isn't in places your pet is going to be. This are very harmful for you pets. If you have no choice then put the pet on leash walk them through it and then clean paws off ASAP! Also don't leave them alone in an area that they can get into that stuff because pets are very good at eating things they shouldn't when Mom and Dad aren't looking.

Now is the time people start checking their anti-freeze levels in their cars. If you spill anti-freeze please clean it up immediately! the ethylene glycol in the anti-freeze is deadly to dogs, cats and people. A single spoonful can cause death in smaller animals. So please please clean it up and switch to pet friendly anti-freeze.
     - Signs Of Anti-freeze poisoning
       -Drunken in appearance
     -may vomit
     -Increase in drink/urination
-depressed, weak, dehydrated, diarrhea, mouth ulcers, rapid breathing and seizures.
